Electricity North West

Electricity North West is once again proudly sponsoring GMCA’s Japan mission. As the electricity network operator for Greater Manchester, Electricity North West plays a crucial role supporting green growth through investment in the region’s critical energy infrastructure.

That investment creates the capacity needed for the electrification of homes, businesses, transport and heating, aligning with the region’s ambitious goal of becoming carbon neutral by 2038.

Electricity North West, part of the Iberdrola Group, already has strong links with Japan through a consortium of Japanese shareholders led by Kansai Electric Power Company – the electricity network company serving Osaka and Kyoto.

Both networks are deeply committed to further strengthening ties between Manchester and Osaka and fostering knowledge exchange with other innovative organisations dedicated to clean growth.

Currently delivering a £2 billion investment in the region from 2023 to 2028, Electricity North West is investing £1 million a day into the North West. This investment:

  • – supports more renewable energy generation connections;
  • – facilitates the adoption of electric vehicles and electric heating;
  • – supports customers, especially those in the most vulnerable circumstances, to enable a fair transition;
  • – ensures a more reliable and resilient electricity network; and
  • – helps the development of cutting-edge, world-leading technologies to improve service for customers.

This mission is a testament to Electricity North West’s dedication to a sustainable future, making significant strides towards a greener North West.

As the UK’s ‘Utility of the Year’ Electricity North West has the expertise, ambition and people to develop dynamic partnerships to share best practice and power a clean future for all.
