Senchado Obaku Baisa-Ryu

Senchado Obaku Baisa-Ryu

September 6, 2025 - September 6, 2025 Manchester Museum

Sado evolved from the tea rituals (charei) practiced at Ouzanpaku Manpukuji Temple in Uji, Kyoto. At its heart is the idea of treasuring the spirit of each encounter through a single bowl of tea.

While matcha is widely known around the world, there are other refined forms of Japanese tea culture. Senchado, for example, is the art of preparing high-quality green teas—such as gyokuro—with grace and beauty.

To make tea more accessible and adaptable to modern life, we have developed a unique style Ichiwan Temae—a single-bowl preparation using large teacups and a chair seating style. We also offer tea in ceremonies at shrines and temples, sharing a bowl of tea as a spiritual tribute.

“We warmly invite people in UK to experience the beauty, tranquillity, and heartfelt spirit of traditional Japanese tea culture.”
