Chanoyu Crossing Cultures
September 7, 2025 - September 7, 2025 Manchester Museum
Chanoyu Crossing Cultures aim to support international cultural exchange through introducing the culture of chanoyu, the Japanese Way of Tea, to people all around the world.
The custom of drinking tea originally came to Japan from China, where it evolved into sado. In recent years, elements of this tradition have been gaining attention overseas, not only for the matcha itself, but also for the aesthetics of wabi-sabi and the zen spirit that underpins the Way of Tea.
At the heart of chanoyu is the idea of ichigo ichie—a once-in-a-lifetime encounter. “We look forward to discovering the unique connections that can arise from sharing a single bowl of tea with each of you.”
